i THE RUAHINE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, March 13. Details of the ramming at Las Palmas of the Ruahine by the Houlder liner Beacon Grange shows that the mishap occurred at 0.40 a.m., in broad daylight, while the Ruahine was anchored, coaling. There was a fresh wind with some swell, which prompted the master of the Beacon Grange to change his anchorage and get into smoother water. She had to pass under the Ruahine's stern, but when nearing her the Beacon Grange lost .her steering way, and at the critical moment the engines were put full ahead, and she struck the Ruahine on the starboard quarter. The impact caused the Ruahine to give a sudden momentary list to port, and though there was no panic the passengers came rushing up on deck. The Beacon Grange backed away, and went inside the breakwater to anchor, with her bows considerably damaged above the water-line. She had cut into the Rjiahine a distance of five feet, and made a gap 10ft wide about Oft above the water-line. After working five days and nights, temporary repairs were effected, and the Ruahine arrived here only four days late.
