STATE COMPETITION.

NEW SOUTH WALES' ACTION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 11. Mr. Griffith has stated his intention of establishing a Government timber yard for the supply of the needs of different departments. He proposes to contract with a couple of North Coast mills for their whole output. This will mean a great saving financially, and also overcome the difficulties recently experienced when they were unable to obtain supplies, causing public works to be held up. Mr. Griffiths states that he does not intend to establish relief works for the Newcastle unemployed. Men wanting work must leave the district, instead of hanging round the mines.
