FREE CHURCH CONGRESS
A PLEA FOR CO-OPERATION. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. London, March 8. A feature of the Free Church Congress at Portsmouth was the Rural Dean's welcome. In his reply Dr. Jowctt, the president of the Free Church Council, emphasised the desire for unity and cooperation between the church, and nonconformists. Dr. Jowctt, who is shortly to take the pastorate of a church in New York, alluded to the King's parting words to him: "You go with the goodwill o\ your King and Queen."
Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald addressed the Congress on the question of the unrest in the industrial world, and declared that the only remedy was to make mutual rights of individuals, not economic power, the basis of industrial agreements. The Congress cheered the proposal that the Free Church ministers should participate in the Coronation. ON POLITICAL QUESTIONS. London, March B.' The Free Church Congress urges the Government, after the Veto Bill has been disposed of, to introduce an Education Bill securing popular control and freeing the schools from sectarianism. A letter was read from Mr. LloydGeorge, in which he said that there was not the slightest need for anxiety respecting Welsh disestablishment. The Government did not intend laying itself open to the charge of betraying its pledges. It was therefore unfair to use menacing language. . Resolutions in favor of Welsh disestablishment and licensing reform were carried.
