The trial of Laretehkin, a member of the Black Hundred, on a charge of having murdered a workman, throws light on the machinations and immunity enjoyed by the band. It was made clear that the police utilised the Black Hundred in various ways. Several politicians, including Count de YVitte, were marked for assassination by the band.
