Wellington, Last Night. _ Lower Hutt borough ratepayers at a poll to-day carried, by 1(13 votes to 83, a proposal to borrow £IO,OOO for drainage purposes. THE FARM IMPLEMENT TRADE. Christchurch, Last Night. At a gathering this afternoon of representatives of the local farm implement makers and manufacturers, and also of firms in other parts of the Dominion, a presentation was made to Mr. A. P. Campbell, for the past seven years manager in New Zealand of the MasseyHarris Company, who leaves to-morrow for Auckland, en route for Canada. In acknowledging the gifts, Mr. Campbell paid a high tribute to the workmanship and quality of New Zealand-manufac-tured implements. STRANDING OF A SCOW. Westport, Last Night. Judgment was given to-day in the inquiry into the stranding of the scow Zingara at Karamea on January 13, the court being of opinion that the stranding under the circumstances was unavoidable, and that no blame.was attachable to anyone concerned, and from first to last all was done which under the circumstances could reasonably have been expected from the parties concerned. The court made an order for the payment by the Crown of the expenses of Captains Fletcher, Kemp, and Somers, totalling £O9. SUNDAY REFRESHMENTS. Auckland, Last Night. Mr. Kettle, S.M., giving reserved judgment in a test case against the proprietor of refreshment rooms charged with breach of the Police Offences Act by supplying refreshments on Sunday afternoon, said that the courts having been driven to hold it was a work of necessity within the meaning of section 17 to supply meals in hotels, boardinghouses, and refreshment rooms, no good end would be served by endeavoring to ascertain what number of meals or kind of refreshments are necessary to the publie and what are not. He dismissed the information. HAWKE'S BAY SHOW. Hastings, March S. The tenth autumn show of the TTawke's Bay A. and P. Society was opened to-day in glorious weather. The attendance promises to be a record. The entries number 1447, as compared with 1307 for last year.
