The Methodist Conference discussed the large increase of immigrants to Australia, find decided to appoint a chaplain at each port of entry, and to make other arrangements to welcome and look after the interests of arriving Methodists. Sonic grave charges were made regarding women immigrants. One speaker alleged that women were landed in Australia who, if virtuous when they left, were certainly not so when they landed. He urged the need for better protection on shipboard.
