Fifty appeared for 41 minutes' play. At 2li Pegler tapped Hordern to Cotter at mid-on. It was plain that he did understand the ball. liordern soon had' Zulch in difficulties. When he had made' 22, Carter missed an easy chance ofj stumping by fumbling the ball. | Faulkner appreciated Kelleway's ; bowling, and hit 29 off three overs. At 29 Zulch had another life. He should have been run out, but Trumper mulled the ball. Again at 39 he lifted Cutter straight to ICelleway in the slips, but Kclleway dropped it. After this, he pegged along, his 50 taking 140 minutes. i'auikner stands out prominently above all the other South Africans as a batsman. He completed to-day an unique record, having aggregated 100 in each test. He compares favorably with the best Australians, not so brilliant as j Trumper, but safer. Except in righthand style he resembles Bardsley.
