AUSTRALIAN GOVERNORS

WHY NOT NATIVE-BORN? A PROBABLE CHANGE OF SYSTEM. Uable—Press. Association—Copyright, Received 0, 9.20 p.m. A deputation from the Australian Natives' Association urged upon the Hon. Carmichael, a member of the Ministry, the claims of distinguished Australians to hold the office of State Governor. Mr. Carmichael said he fully sympathised with the Association. There was nothing in Australia, he said, that was too good for the Australians.

There was a possibility that the spheres of State and Federal Governments were going to re-modelled, and probably one of the problems of considerable urgency which would arise would be the abolition of the position of State Governor. It would probably receive the support of himself and his party.
