DISTRICT NEWS.

WAIONGONA. (From Our Own Correspondent). Waiongona people evidently set a high value on liberies. The other day I reported that a library had been formed at the school, and now the formation of a public library seems likely to become a reality. At a weekly meeting of the school excursion committee on Thursday, e. discussion was opened as to the best meanb of laying out the balance from the excursion fund. Mr. Hughes suggested a library for the district, and it waß decided to call a public meeting to make full arrangements and elect a committee. In the meantime, application will be made for a Government subsidy.

TARATA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Quite a gloom was cast over this district when it became known that Mrs. W. Crozier had died in the New Plymouth Hospital. Mrs. Crozier was well and favorably known, having lived in the district since girlhood. She leaves a family of nine children to mourn 'her loss, the eldest being fourteen years of age. Great sympathy is felt for Mr. Crozier and family in their sad bereavement.

Mfigsrs. Vile Bros, and Payntcr Bros, have decided to instal sheep-shearing machines for the forthcoming season, anid other farmers are likely to follow, their advantage being decidedly felt at crutching time. A son of Mr. C. W. Fougere ljad the misfortune to break his leg through falling off a sledge drawn by two horses. Dr. Hislop, from Inglewood, attended the sufferer, who is progressing favorably. The rain of late has made great improvement to the pastures, and more especially to the Dairy Factory Company. The supply had fallen considerably in the last, month. Owing to the rivers being so low, the manager had to resort to steam.

A meeting of the Dog Trial Committee was held last Saturday night, but owing to the rough weather prevailing a very poor attendance was recorded. The date of the forthcoming meeting was fixed for April 20.
