NOTES BY MOTORUA. (By Telegraph—Special to the "News.") Wanganui, Last Night. The weather was dull, the track in splendid order, and the racing was keen. North-East was again a warm favorite for the opening event, but with Lethean got hung up in the tapes. Humming Bird won all the way from St. Felix, the rest close up.
Piriwai was best backed in the Matarawa Handicap, but lost several lengths at the start. Taft led to the straight, where Jackpin took the lead, and lasted long enough to stall off Con the Shaughraun's late run.
Pierene was considered a moral foi the Jackson Stakes. True Shot made the early running, but Pierene was in the van at the home turn. Vice-Admiral came with a late run, and won on the post by a nose. Hydrant, with Billy Young up, had more backers in the Open Hurdles today, and took charge five furlongs fromhome, winning comfortably from Maidi, who came from a long way back. Playmate slipped his fetlock, at the last hurdle.
Ribstone Pippin easily repeated his first day's victory in the Hack Hurdles. Miss Mischief, Lady Medallist, and Goodwin Park were well supported in the Wanganui Stakes., Te Puia made most of the running. Lady Medallist •won very easily, amidst loud cheering. Brown Trout, Kauroa and Mallet were fancied most for the Harrison Handicap, but Meroze upset the favorite, winning' easily. There were only three starters in the Farewell Handicap, and they were fairly evenly supported. St. Bill made the pace solid, and just lasted long enough to win by a narrow margin from Lady Moutoa. Boanerges shaped poorly.
