THE INDIAN ESTIMATES

INCREASED OPIUM REVENUE. By Cable —Press Association—Cepyright. Received 1, 10.50 p.m. London, March 1. Lord Crewe has issued the revised Indian Estimates for 1910-1911, showing a revenue of £80,538,200, and an expenditure of £77,048,900. He attributes the increase of £2,960,300 in the opium revenue to the unprecedented prices obtained at the Calcutta sales. Railway revenue shows an increase of £1,755,000. The Budget estimate for 1911-1912 shows a surplus of £743,800, a decrease of £3,330,500 being anticipated in the opium revenue, owing to the production of fewer chests and lower prices.
