THE COAL VEND

APPROVED BY LABOR MINISTER. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, February 28. A meeting of northern colliery proprietors discussed the dissolution of the coal vend. Mr. Eden, Minister for Mines in the New South Wales Ministry, stated that although he believed the object of the pending prosecutions by the Federal Government was to crush the vend, he hoped the dissolution would not be brought about. It was questionable if tire collieries at Newcastle proper would be able to carry on without an agreement; on the selling rate. He doubted the wisdom of a reduced selling rate as a means of winning back trade. He would have thought the proprietors had lost their reason if they had again reduced the selling price to 7s 6d per ton.
