ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
BATHING FATALITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Thursday. Laurence Morrigan, aged 29 years, chief steward of the steamer Daphne, was seized with cramp while bathing at Matakama, and died in the water. A FURNACE FATALITY. Auckland, Thursday. George Dixon, the second victim of the accident at Wilson's cement works, Warkworth, died in the hospital- last night. The ' accident occurred in the rotary building, where clinker is burned by a fierce flame. One of the coal bins overflowing, Davidson went to turn off the overflow, which caught fire. Davidson caught the full force of the explosion. Dixon also received injuries which resulted in his death. RAILWAY FATALITY. Wellington, Last Night. The elderly man who was knocked down by a train near Petone railway station last night, and terribly injured, died this morning. The body has not been identified. DROWNED IN THE'aVON. Christchurch, Last Night. At the inquest on Alexander Forbes Orr, one witness stated that when the canoe was got ashore Orr's body was found lying in a prone position, with the feet under the thwarts, and his hands clasped. The appearance of the body led witness to believe that the deceased had a -seizure of some kind, and was dead before he could have been drowned. He appeared 1o witness to have gone to sleep. There was a current where the canoe was found, and a bank of weeds, and probably the canoe struck this bank and overturned. The constable who took charge of the body stated that there were no indications that deceased was not sober. A verdict that deceased accidentally met his death by drowning was recorded.
