REBELLION IN THE ISLANDS
GERMAN PUNITIVE EXPEDITION. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 23, 8.35 p.m. Sydney, February 23. The latest news is to the effect that the rebellion at Ponape is still m progress, though it is giving out. The rebels are using nails and glass in place of bullets, against the German punitive expedition. The Germans captured 281 prisoners, and had a naval officer, a petty officer, and five of the New Guinea police killed, and a naval officer wounded. Received 23, 9.25 p.m. Sydney, February 23. Besides taking prisoners, the German expedition shot many of the Ponape rebels.
