A LOAN REJECTED. ' By Telegriinh.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A poll of Eastbourne ratepayers was taken to-day on proposals to borrow £9OOO for water supply provision, or in the alternative £17,500 for water supply and sewerage. The former was defeated by 200 votes to 114, and the latter by 244 to 80. FARMERS IN POLITICS. Christchurch, Last Night. The president of the North Canterbury executive of the Farmers' Union stated at a meeting to-day that Mr. D. Jones, the recently appointed organiser of the Farmers' Political Protection Party, would arrive an March Bth, and matters connected with the drawing up of the party's platform would be left over till his arrival. A CHILDREN'S WARD. Wellington, Last Night. The Hospital Board has accepted the tender of Messrs. Watts Bros, at £11,509 for the erection of a children's ward. The work is to be completed in forty weeks. Twelve other tenders were received ranging up to £10,115. FORGERY AND UTTERING. Wellington, Last Night. At the S.M. Court to-day Robert, Bell, alias Ibell, alias Snell, pleaded "guilty to charges of forging and uttering a promissory note for £B4 in the name of M. Baigent, and forging and uttering an authority for payment of £4O. Jle was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. ARBITRATION COURT. (ireymouth, Wednesday. The Arbitration Court awarded Robt. (ih'ii €l7l compensation for the" loss of his son William, who was drowned off the Notown gold dredge last June when repairing the machinery.
