HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

Following is the High Commissioner's cabled report under date London, February 18: Mutton.—Trade in all classes of mutton is very slow, and prices arc barely maintained. The stock is moderate, but there is a large proportion of heavy weights that arc difficult to sell. North Island 3'/ g d. Lamb. —The market is dull, and very little business doing. The supply exceeds the demand. No change in prices, but quotations show a weaker tendency. Canterbury 5%d, other than Canterbury 3%d.
Beef.—The market is quiet. The stock of frozen beef is small, and supplies of American chilled beef arc small. Nominally, New Zealand hinds arc 3%d, fores 3'/ s d, and chilled about the same. Butter. —The market is steady with moderate inquiry. There is a large supply on hand. Superior grades are in demand. There arc a few complaints of fishiness in New Zealand butter. Choicest New Zealand 105s, Australian 101s, Danish 1235. Cheese—The market is quiet and firm. White 50s fid, colored s!>s Od. Kemp. —The market is quiet. The output from Manila for the week was 2G.000 bales. Wool.—The market is firm, with a hardening tendency. Bradford quotations: 3(i's (low crossbreds) Is let 40's (low crossbreds) Is iy,d, 44's (medium crossbreds) Is 2'/,d, 50's (half-breds) Is oy,d, 00's (quarter-breds) Is 9d, 00's (merinos) 2s l'/ a d. Kauri Gum.—The market is firm, and there is a large demand for the belter grades. Ordinary to fair three-quarter scraped .i) 8 ss. fair half-scraped £5, brown fair half to three-quarter scraped £4 ss, brown pickings (common to good) £2 2s (id, bush, fair to good pale and amber scraped 82s Od. Cocksfoot seed. —The market is quiet and firm. Bright clean New Zealand seed weighing 171bs per bushel, 73s per cwt.
