NEW PLYMOUTH v. IXO LEWOOD. New Plymouth journeyed to Inglewood on Saturday, and after an exciting game defeated tlie local team by two wickets. Inglewood won the toss, and elected to bat. The wicket was very fast, and the ball rose a good deal. Pullen and Brown opened for inglewood, and took the score to 27 before Brown was well caught in the slips by Bury off Clarke. Thomas was next man, and helped to take the score to 32 before Ooddard caught Pullen at square kg. Mcßae joined Thomas, but the latter was nicely caught behind the wickets by Stohr, off McLaren. The next three wickets fell cheaply, and it looked doubtful if the team would reach the century. The tail, however, wagged some, the last four men putting on 52 runs, making the score 140 before the last wicket fell. Stratford batted nicely for 15, before being brilliantly caught at third man by Johns. Thomson (14), | Orbell (9), and Russell (14, not out) also batted well. ■ McLaren and Clarke opened for New Plymouth, and made 20 before Clarke lost his wicket. Clarke scored 20 in good style, and hit three fours. McLaren and Bury did not stay long, and three wickets were down for 34. Ooddard and Williams took the score to 51 before the former was run out, and Arden joined Williams, but with the score at 61 was clean bowled by Russell. Stohr was next man, and he and Arden put up a good partnership. Their running between the wickets was a treat to watch, and the score mounted to 121 before Stohr was bowled by a shooter. Morey joined Arden, only to see the latter caught after three runs had been added. The match was getting very exciting at this stage, as with two wickets to fall New Plymouth wanted 17 runs to win. Morey and Treblecoe batted nicely, the former playing some nice strokes, and when time was up the visitors wanted onlythree runs to win. The Inglewood team, however, decided to play the match out, and Morey scored the winning hit a few minutes later. Following are the scores: INGLEWOOD. Pullen, c Goddard, b Clarke 19 W. To this total Bain contributed 47, Bowles 10, and I Itoby 14 (not out). The country team's' fielding wis slack, several catches being missed. This was in marked contrast to the Service men, who were very keen, and missed few catches. Egmont Villufre opened badly. The pitch was very fast, and O'Byrne received two nasty knocks from Wood's bowling in the first over, and had to retire, after making 21. Three wickets were down for 'foiir| when O'Byrne returned to the crease and hit up eight runs before he was dismissed by a smart catch by Bain. This, with U. llarsh's patient batting for seven, stopped the rot, and Irvine (13), G. Gibson (ill), and S. (iil)son (8). brought the score up to 51 for seven wickets. The last three, however, added only four runs, Service thus winning by 50 runs. During the interval between the innings the Egmont Village team was entertained at the Hygienic Kiosk. Scores:
