THE DEER STALKERS. \ By Telegraph.—Press Association. ChristcJuireh, Last Night. The Right Hon. the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) was waited on this morning on behalf of the deer-stalkers who go to the North Otago district, and it was pointed out to him that no date had been fixed yet for the opening ol the season, owing to the differences ol opinion between tin: stalkers and the two acclimatisation societies interested. On the position being explained to Sir Joseph, he stated that he would send a telegram to the Minister of Internal Affairs asking him to fix April Ist, the usual date, for the opening of the season.
A PRIVATE MIMING RAILWAY. Wellington, Last Might. At a meeting of tin? directors of thd Waipu Railway ami Collieries, Ltd., held to-day, tenders for construction of bridges and railway horn Ngaruawahia' to the mine at Te Akntea were opened. Messrs. Donald McLean and Co., the well-known Wellington contractors, we*e the lowest tendereis, and their tender was accepted. It is expected the work will take eighteen months to complete. BREACH 0? AWARD. Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day the Te Aro House.Co. was charged by the Inspector of Factories with a breach of the tailoresses' award by permitting work to be done off the premises. The company admitted the offence, but stated in extenuation that they had been left short-handed at a time when it was necessary to uilfil orders with greatest expedition. A penalty of £2 was imposed.
