The underwriters' surveyor having reported that it is impossible to save the New Guinea, the hull of the vessel has been abandoned and sold. A QUEENSLAND LOAN. Melbourne, February IC. Queensland is negotiating a loan ot £500,000 from the Commonwealth Government. IRONWORKS STRIKE. Sydney, February 10. The blast furnace men at Lithgow iron-works have struck, refusing to handle coal sent by free laborers from the Carcoar mines, where a strike is in progress. THE TIMBER STRIKE. Melbourne, February 10. The timber strikers resumed work under an agreement to submit the trouble to a non-legislative wages board. THE AUSTRALIAN NAVY. Melbourne, February IG. An arrangement has been made by the Admiralty for Fleet Paymaster Manisty to join the administrative stall of the Australian Navy at a salary of £7OO a year.
