FRENCH RAILWAY DISASTERS
FATAL COLLISIONS. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Paris, February 15. • In a railway accident several carriages were wrecked. A gasoline lighting tankexploded, firing the wreckage. Two deaths are reported, and further charred bodies are visible. An express, travelling at 53 miles an hour, dashed into a goods train, and five trucks were telescoped. The express from Nugent to Paris ran into the wreckage, but the engine only was derailed. Twenty-two persons were killed, and twelve bodies have been recovered. Sixty were injured owing to the explosion of a tank. Seven were, burned to death in a few minutes. The driver of the express failed to see the signals, a.s the wind was blowing the smoke in his eyes. Nineteen passengers in the dining-car escaped with cuts from broken crockery and glass. Another smash occurred at Bethuue, when two workmen's trains collided. Two were killed, and twenty injured.
