CONGREGATIONAL UNION

ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin. Monday. At the conference of the Congregational Union to-day, the Ministers' Conference, which had met on Saturday, made the following recommendations: That a committee be set up to draft a programme within the next month and submit same to the committee of the Union; that the committee act in collaboration with the Auckland members of the committae; that the committee consist of the Wellington ministers and an equal number of laymen; that as to the question of delegation to Union meetings, the matter be left to the Rev. J. G. Glnsson and Mr. Beaven to submit the same to a reference committee; that ministers be requested to ask from members of their suggestions as to a church hymn book, and send on the suggestions to a member of the Hymn Book Committee in their district within a fortnight after the close of the Council; that it lie a recommendation to the several districts to hold an annual district conference during the winter months. It was contended that the holding of an annual district conference would be very beneficial to the Union. It was pointed out, however, that the Union should not be called upon ti bear any expense in the holding of such conferences. The recommendations were adopted. The question of disposal of the Oainaru property was discussed. The general opinion appeared to be that the withdrawal from Oamaru was a bad mistake, Several members expressed the opinion that it would be unwise to dispose of the property, and the matter was referred to the Finance Committee for a report. In the afternoon a conference of lady delegates was held. It was decided to recommend that at the next annual meeting of the Council a ladies' meeting be arranged in tne evening. Rev. Hunt (Timaru) gave an address on "The new age in Christian Missions: us problems and promise."
