HARBOR BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Harbor Board was held on Friday evening. Tile [' secretary reported that the Postmaster s advised the delaying of connection ov.er. ' the matter at the Mokau telephone. The trustees of the estate of the late " 0. Fairweather asked for a renewable • lease.—The matter was referred to the 5 Valuation Committee. 3 Messrs. E. Beckbessinger, G. H. Stulibs, J. Me Duff and A. W. Ogle asked j the Board to reconsider the matter oi rentals placed upon their properties.— 1 Mr. Chappell moved that the whole mat- ' ter be re-opened. He was of the opinion that the rentals fixed were too high, and he thought it only just to reconsider the matter. Mr. Jennings seconded the motion. He * was not prepared to say that the rents j were too high, but perhaps it might be as well to refer the matter back to the committee. | Some considerable discussion arose ' over the matter, opinions differing aa to whether the rentals were too high. Mr. Jennings moved that the whole [ matter be referred back to the committee for further consideration. Mr. Fore--1 man seconded. ! An amendment was moved by Mr. Chappell, and seconded by Mr. Wilson, that the matter be deferred and dealt with by the whole Board at its next meeting. | The motion was declared carried, the chairman, being interested, refraining from voting. Mr. J. B. Roy submitted a new form of perpetual lease, the matter being deferred till next meeting. Mr. W. 1". Newbery asked that an arbitrator be appointed to fix a rental j for a lease shortly falling due. —It was ' resolved to defer the matter of the apJpointmenfc of the Board's arbitrator nilI til next meeting. i j The necessary resolution for hypothecating loan debentures to the Bank of I New Zealand was carried. A vote of I thanks was passed to the Sinking Fund ' Commissioners. I The Board's Engineer reported that | good progress had been made with the wharf extension, and he anticipated its | completion before next meeting. I Tenants of recently acquired endowI ments are to be notified that in future rents are to be paid to the Board in- | stead of the Commissioner of Crown I Lands. I Accounts amounting to £412 0s Cd were passed for payment. The secretary was instructed to submit an account of the amount of timber used in the new wharf. A return made by the secretary showed that ,€2339 Is Id had been received for wharfage and that 262 vessels had visited the port during the year. The meeting adjourned.
