WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY
A PROSPEROUS YEAR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The annual meeting of the Wellington Gas Company was held to-day. Mr. Nathan, chairman, addressing the shareholders, said that the prolit and loss account showed a marked advance in business. The spending power of consumers was returning to the normal conditions existing before the depression in 1908. The company was more than holding its own against the keen and in some respects unfair competition of electricity. During the year there were paid off £7900 of 4 1 /, per cent, debentures, leaving £50,000 of 5 per cent, issued in London and maturing in 1912. The value of the company's plant was set down at £323,800, an increase of £10,.201 for the year. The sum oi £5914 had been charged to revenue for repairs and renewals, £3354 written oft for depreciation, £8205 set aside for the half-yearly dividend of 5 per cent., ana £15,873 carried forward. Complaint was made by the chairman about the methods of the City Council as disclosed in recent negotiations with the hospital trustees for the supply of electrical energy at specially low rates.
