THE VANCOUVER SERVICE

THE AUSTRALIAN ATTITUDE. By Cable—.Press AwnmHnn—Copyright. Received 14, 12.10 a.m. Melbourne, February 13. The Postmaster-General, referring to the Vancouver mail contract, held out no hope of a new service being established when the existing contract terminates. He was not prepared to ask Parliament to pay a shilling more for the service than was nojv being paid. The Union Company's vessels, which would be. used in the new Canada-New Zealand contract, will go to Sydney in any case, and letters can then be sent at poundage rates. If a trade service is desired the Customs Department can establish it.
