CIVIL SERVICE DEFEAT LAW. The third round of the Saturday competition commenced oil Saturday. Civil Service met Law. The latter club lias evidently fallen on evil days, as this was its third consecutive defeat after putting up a record of six consecutive wins. Service won very easily, and are now level with Law for first 1 place. Service went to the wickets first, and compiled 151. Bowles with 30. wi)sj, the highest scorer, others to produce double figures being Bain 27, Sullivah 22, Dinniss 22, Osborne 14, Ingram 11 and Mackay 10. Law made a disastrous start, seven wickets being down for 23, and of these Clapham had made 14. Hill, however, was unbeaten for 21, and was mainly" responsible for the scoro reaching 54, just.sufficient to save the follow-on. Wood and Dinniss with five wickets each divided the bowling honors. In their second innings Service scored 12!) for the loss of six wickets, an appreciable number of runs being the result of overthrows through futile shots at. the wickets owing to Bain tempting them by feinting to run.
