OLD MAX DROWNED. , Wellington, Friday. The body found floating in the harbor yesterday has been identified as that of a man who gave the name W. Rowe when he paid for a bed at the Salvation Army Hotel last Tuesday. He was very hard up and despondent. He was apparently about sixty years of age. A verdict of "found drowned" was returned. SHOT HIMSELF. Auckland, Friday. Charles G. Knox, commission agent, was found lying on the floor of his office in Hobson buildings with his head on a cushion and a revolver alongside him. The bullet had passed from the right eye through the top of the head. He was still alive when removed to the hospital. Later. Charles Knox died this evening. The, deceased was a son of a pioneer sottlei 1 : of the Hamilton district, and was well known in Auckland as an athlete and footballer in his young days. He was unmarried.
