Sir Sydenham Clarke laid the foundation of hydro-electric works, which will dam valleys in the Ghats. The dams will be 8900 feet in length, some of them seventy feet high, and will create lakes covering 2251 acres, transmitting 40,000 horse-power to the Bombay cotton mills, a distance of 43 miles.
