BUSH FIRES
ALONG THE COAST. (From Our Warea Correspondent.) The weather of late has been very dry, a high mountain wind blowing since Friday. Bush fires have started and done a considerable amount of damage. One fire spread rapidly over Mr. R. A. Putt's land, destroying several hrmdred of rirau posts, and' then visited Mr. George Julian's land, and burnt nearly all his grass. The fire then cleared a portion of Mr. Foben's land, and finished up in Mrs. Larking's. The fires were very bad at the top end of the Newall road, and it is feared that some damage will soon be done if the wind does not cease. A fire started up the top end of the Warea road and swept over Mr. P. G. Jones', Mr. P. A. Putt's, and Mr. W. Julian's, and cleared everything in front of it. From Mr. W. 11. Julian's land it crossed over the Waiwcranui. river into Mr. A. Wells' land, and seemed at the time of writing to be making good headway. A fire is also raging at the back of Mr. 11. Bell's, on the top end of the Puniho road. Along the Ciu'rington road things are very warm, fires being in r.!l directions. It was impossible to traverse this road on Tuesday.
