THE EASTERN STRANDING
MARINE ENQUIRY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Brisbane, February 8. The enquiry into the stranding of the Eastern has commenced. The pilot, Maxwell, stated that the fault was his in attempting to pilot the vessel when he was unable to see the buoys. He admitted that the captain advised waiting until a rain squall had cleared, and he should have done so. He denied the second mate's evidence, contending that he reported passing a red buoy. The enquiry was adjourned.
