OUR MINERAL RESOURCES

PLEA FOR DEVELOPMENT. 810 FUTURE PROPHESIED, j By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, February 6. At the conclusion of the Mining Engineers' Conference at Te Aroha, Captain Richards, manager of Mount Morgan mine, expressed the belief that twenty years hence New Zealand would show remarkable strides in the development of her mineral wealth. He mentioned the iron, copper and petroleum deposits, and urged the duty of the Government to turn its attention to those sources of wealth, to extend the geological survey of the country, and to pay attention to metallurgy. If New Zealand prosecuted the development of her mineral wealth and observed what was being done at Mount Morgan and Mount Lyell, the results would be a revelation. It was his candid opinion that New Zealand was going to be a copper producing country.
