THE POLICE FORCE.

IMPORTANT CHANGES ANNOUNCED. Wellington, Last Night. Important police changes are announced by the Attorney-General (the Hon. Dr. Findlay). Inspector Kicly, who lias been acting as inspector in charge of the Canterbury district during the absence on leave of Inspector Gillies, will retain control of the Canterbury district. Inspector Mitchell will be transferred from Invcrcargill to Dunedin, to replact Inspector O'Brien, who has retired, and Inspector Mitchell's place at Invorcargill will be taken by Sub-Inspector 0 Donovan, now at Palineraton North, who will be promoted to the rank of inspector. Sub-Inspector Norwood, of Wellington, will replace Sub-Inspector O'Donovan at Palmerston North, and Sub-Inspector Phair will go from Dunedin to Timaru in place of Sub-Inspector Green, who retires. Sergeant Batholomew Sheehan, at pre. sent in charge of the Newton station at Auckland, will be promoted to the rank of sub-inspector. Another appointment of a sub-inapec-tor will shortly be made, and the claime of the senior members of the detective branch of the force to this office will then be considered.
