ALLEGED CARGO-BROACHING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland,. Last Night. A charge of alleged cargo-broachin" was heard at the Police Court to-day before Mr. Cutten, S.M., when Waltci Armstrong, a wharf laborer, was charged that on January 23rd last, he stole a pair of boots, valued at £l, the properly of Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Co. The allegation was that while working on the Mamari accused stole the boots and endeavoured to get away with them secreted under his shirt. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial, bail being allowed. MIDLAND RAILWAY STRIKE. Christelmrch, Last Night Work at the Otira tunnel was resumed at 4 p.m. to-day, the afternoon shift going on. ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT. Christclmrch, Last Night. In connection with the charge against William Pitcaithly of indecent assault, which was dismissed on the grounds of insufficient evidence, the police ha.ve applied for a re-trial, and, as the result of the application, the accused has been summoned to appear before Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning, when the case will be re-heard. RATING ON UNIMPROVED VALUE. Gisborne, Last Night. At a poll yesterday it was decided that the system of rating on unimproved values should be adopted in Gisborne. The figures were 474 for and 277 against. The roll numbered over 2000.
