SHOPS AND OFFICES ACT

AN IRRITATING CLAUSE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. A meeting of shopkeepers was held here to-day to consider clause 13 of ■the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1910, which provides that in a business conducted by partners one of them must be registered as occupier, thus placing the others in the position of employees, who cannot work overtime for more than a certain number of days. After discussion, it was resolved, "That this meeting considers the clause which makes it compulsory to register shops in the name of one partner only an infringement of the right of persons to work on their own premises whilst the shop is closed, and requests the executive of the Employers Federation to urge upon the Government the necessity of immediate alteration of this provision."
