PETROLEUM NEWS.

THE TARANAKI COMPANY. The manager, Mr. Keith, reports that the No. 2 well is still flowing oil strong* ly, and all the tanks at this well have been filled. It becomes necessary now to convey the oil by pipe-line to the bifc underground tank at No. 1 well, avoiding the expense of providing further tank accommodation for the present. The tank just filled holds approximately 48,000 gallons. The gas taken from the No. 2 well for firing purposes at No. 5 well, about 300 yards in a direct line across the main road, is answering splendidly. This effects a very great saving in the coot of fuel.

At No. 3 bore, the depth is now 3412 feet, the drilling making excellent progress, and penetrating country of a better nature.

Drilling is proceeding satisfactorily at No. 5 bore.
