SIR JOSEPH WARD
BEARDS THE LION IN HIS Dh.\. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Pukekohe, Last Night. The Prime Minister addressed an overflowing meeting at Pukekohe this evening. He said that during the time his party had been in power *27,000 fresh settlers had been placed on the land, or, allowing two children to a man and his wife, over 100,000 people had been placed on the land. Over ten millions had been advanced by way of mortgage at a rate of interest that the farmer could not obtain from any other institution or person. The Government had forced the lowering of the rate of interest during the past nine months. One and a half million pounds had been loaned to local authorities at S'/ 3 per cent, interest.
A vote of thanks and confidence was passed, and cheers given for Sir Joseph and Lady Ward.
