(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tile annual school picnic was held in Mr. Grcenway's paddock on Thursday in glorious weather. There was a good attendance. It was very hot out in the sun, but seats had been fixed up under the trees, and the visitors and children sat there in the shade and partook of their dinner. During the day numerous races and games were got off in good time and without a hitch of any kind, a result for which credit is due to Mr. A. Thomas, the schoolmaster, and his stafl, and the committee, which consisted of Messrs. Wells (chairman), M. Hill, W. Greeinvay, Sullivan, W. Stephenson, 11. Lander, and Taingahoe, Mesdames Hill, Stephenson, Lander. Thomas, Wells, Greenway, and Misses K. liill, E, Ivnighi and D. Hill. Races for the children for prizes of the value of £4 were got off as follows: —Junior girls' race: RubyHill 1, Annie Petch 2. Junior boys' potato race: Fred Hill 1, R. Ruakera 2, S. Hill 3. Senior boys,' 100 yards: E. Rogers 1, N. Hardwood 2, D. McEldowney 3. Junior boys, 100 yards: F. Grant 1, J. Taingahoe 2, R. Ruakera 3. Old boys, 100 yards: J. Tuku 1, Ed. Manu 2. Senior girls, 100 yards: N. Ruakera 1, C. Stephenson 2, H. Stephenson 3. Girls' egg and spoon race: H. Stephenson 1, C. Stephenson 2, R, Hilt 3. Girls' three-legged race: Norah Ruakera and C, Stephenson 1, Ruby Hill and Hilda Stephenson 2. Boys' hop, step and jump: N. Hardwood 1, R. Hill T. Manukanga 3. Boys' higll jump: P. Taingahoe 1, G. Stephenson 2, R. Hardwood 3. Senior boys, potato race: Tautini Hopu 1, R. llill 2, L. Rogers 3. Boys' hurdle race: S. Hill I, H. Baily 2, N. Hardwood 3. Married ladies' race: Mrs. Putt 1, Mrs. Rogers 2, Mrs. Adlam 3. Single ladies' race: Miss E. Knight 1, Miss D. Hill 2, Miss K. Hill 3. Last try (girls): Annie Grant and Iv. Rogers, dead-heat. Tug-of-war (junior boys): S. Hill, F. Hill, and P. Ruakera 1. Tug-of-war (senior boys): J. McEldowney, D. McEldowney, T. Manukanga, T. Hopu, R. Hilt and L. Rogers 1. In the evening a social was held in the schoolroom, the building being fairly full, visitors coming from Warea and Okato. The room had been cleared, and dancing started about 8.30, and was kept going until shortly after midnight, when an excellent sapper was handed round by the ladies of the district. During the
evening, Miss Phoebe Ban- sang "Would You Care." Mr. M. D. Rogers and Mr. W. H. Julian supplied the music, Mr. Thomas acting as M.C. The milk supply at the local, creamery : has decreased considerably during the past few weeks. 1 The school, which has been closed for | the summer holidays, re-opened on Monday, there being a record attendance, only one child being absent from school.
