Although the JYarea Defence Rifle Club Wii# thought to be in a moribund condition, i£ Held a meeting on Saturday night, and thougii only a few members were present, it was decided to try and put the club on a sounder footing. The local school picnic, postponed from the original date iixed, will take place on the Bth of this month.
The weather of late has been very warm and things are looking rather dry, especially the young turnips. Early "oil Friday morning, however, a heavy gale and storm visited us from the south-east and lasted for several hours, with thunder and lightning, wind and rain. Notwithstanding, things are as hot and as dry as ever.
I understand that Mr. C. W. Revell has secured the agency for a large cycle and sporting goods firm. This will prove a great convenience for coastal cyclists. On Saturday last, Mr. S. R. Crockett, the district stock inspector, paid his annual visit for the .purpose of innoculating calves.
