ESTIMATES OF FIELD CROPS.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Saturday. The following are the agricultural statistics just issued by the Department of Agriculture, giving the estimated yields, of field crops up to December 31, 1910:

Grasses (pounds per acre).—Auckland, ryegrass 270, cocksfoot 208, red clover —; Hawke's Bay, 440, 100, —; Taranaki and Wellington, 442, —, —; Nelson and Marlborough, 588, 75, 184; Canterbury, —, 108*, —; Otago, 370, 203, —; Southland, 522, 247, —; Dominion average, 413, 107.00, 184. *Except cocksfoot, taken at an
earlier date. Root crops (tons per acre).—Auckland, potatoes 5.2, turnips 24.5, mangolds 31.75; Hawke's Bay, 0, 19, 23; Taranaki and Wellington, (i, —, —; Nelson and Marlborough, 0.0, 17.2, 19; Canterbury,—, —, —; Otago, 0.31, 17.00, 22.13; Southland, 7, 17, 2G; Dominion average, 0.40, 18.19, 24.05. The Hon. Mr. Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, explained to a reporter tha* owing to certain circumstances which perhaps could not be further alluded to, the Canterbury estimates had of necessity to be based upon those of last year. It was hoped, however, to get out a fresh estimate at a later date.
