The following item is supplied by tke Commonwealth cable service:—lt is understood that the Swiss Government intends to authorise cities possessing freezing facilities under State control to import frozen meat, but a permanent permit to import will not be granted at present. IMPROVED CONDITIONS DEMANDED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. As an outcome of Mr. W. D. Lysnar's address here yesterday on the conditions under which the Dominion's frozen meat is handled at London, the president .(Mr. 0. F. Clothier) of the North Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union to-day forwarded the following cable messages, replies to Which are expected to-morrow: "Town Clerk, Guildhall, London.— At a large and influential public meeting of producers held in Canterbury yesterday, the meeting unanimously agreed to support the request of the New Zealand Committee to your corporation to improve Smithfield upon all heads. Trust speedy action. Clothier, President North Canterbury Union." "Port of London Authority, London.— At a large and influential public meeting of producers, held in Canterbury yesterday under the auspices of the North Canterbury Farmers'. Union, the meeting unanimously adopted the resolution already cabled to you by Napier producers. Trust speedy action. Clothier, President North Canterbury Farmers' Union."
