FIRE AT OPUNAKE
A MOTOR-CAR BURNT. At 9.10 p.m. on Saturday night the firebell was rung, and a general stampede was made in the direction of tlu north-west (says the Opunake correspondent of the Hawera Star). The fire was soon seen to be in the shed in which Mr. A. Martin keeps his motor-car, situated about ten yards away from tha house in which he resides. When the first men—Messrs. VV. Waswo and Bayliss—arrived the shed was in utter ruin. There being no chance of saving the car, they did their best to keep the fire off the house by deluging it with water, and thanks to the efforts of the working party, only a little paint was scorched off. Only the ironwork of the car was left. The cause of the fire is unknown. The car was insured in the Commercial Union.
