THE FOXTOtf MEETING. (By "Moturoa.") There was a fair sprinkling of Taranaki sports at Foxton, and the suwess of Golden Loop and Meroze made their

outing profitable. The going was gooa, illl(l till! lillll'S I'il-il.

Millcnhtl put down ii warm tavoritt in Captain in the Hurdles. liiiiiilaii"i fell.

Captain Bell .scored coinfortjildv in the Electrie, ridden by \V. Young. The run-ner-up, Lord Possible, shaped well, aim should win soon.

Rauparaha and Irish Rifle carried a lot of money in the Cup. Irish Hide anil Yoetgang led into the straight. Then' Flingot came fast on the outside and Rauparaha, and a great race home ensued. Flingot won by half a length from Voetgang, with Rauparaha. a close third. Highden shaped poorly. Melalogue was a hot order in the Trial Hack, and Howler (W. Young) was well backed. Eva just got home in a tight finish from the rank outsider Goodform. Brown Trout was the best backed in the Hack Welter, but had no chance with Meroze, who won handily, after a pretty race. Hermia and Gladiole monopolised the betting in the Flying, and finished in that order. Lord Soult was poorly ridden, and Sir Frisco also ran badly.

Seaweed and San Pluie had most admirers in the Dash Hack, and the former won easily from Katipo, who paid a very large dividend. Makara was disappointing.

Golden Loop and Waipunui had the Welter to themselves, the Taranaki horse winning in fine style.

TARANAKI AUTUMN MEETING. ENTRIES CLOSE TO-NIIIGT. A final reminder is give horse owners and trainers that nominations for all events to lie decided at the Taranaki Jockey Club's autumn meeting on February 15 and Hi, close to-night with the secretary, Mr. E. P. Webster, at !) p.m. It is hardly necessary to point out reasons why this meeting should command the support of racing men. The stakes are very large for the Taranaki Cup gathering, and it follows the week after the Egmont B.C. autumn meeting, thus oll'ering inducement to outside owners as well as local. First rate nominations were received for the Egmont meeting, and no doubt the Taranaki Jockey Glib will be as well, if not better, supported. The full programme will be found in our advertising columns.

TURF TOPICS. ,

(By "Moturoa.") The Wellington and Foxton meetings will be continued to-day. The Wellington Stakes, to be run at Trentham this afternoon, should provide an interesting race. On Auckland form Culprit, Orton and Picrene are very evenly matched, and with Counterfeit, Tenterhook, Sunburnt and Bootle in addition, to say nothing of the other "dark horses" in the race, it should be a good betting race. Many contend that Orton was lucky to defeat Culprit at Ellerslie, and probably that opinion may bu strengthened by to-day's running. The following arc,the final payments for the race:—Orton, Counterfeit, Countermine, Tenterhook, Labour Day, br c by St. Ambrose—Maude, b f by St. Ambrose— W 7 aingongoro, ch f by Sylva Park— Mongonui, br c by San Fran—Kissmary, Picrene, Mazurka , Bootle, b f by Conqueror—Louie, Bryon, Sunburnt, Culprit, Emile Soult.

Soultlinc having led off with a brilliant feat over seven furlongs early last, month at Calcutta, it was considered highly probable that the Auckland-bred gelding would repeat his winning performance in the Trials, run a few days prior to the Viceroy's Cup. Soultline was a raging hot favorite, but ho met with an unexpected defeat, the winner turning up in the English-bred horse Fizz, the favorite finishing third. Rill, winner of the Trentham Welter on Saturday has been a most consistent stake-earner this season, and must have won five or six races during the last two months.

Northern papers state that the Takapuna course is as hard as flint, and a good deal of rain will be required to take the sting out of the ground for the tender-footed ones on Saturday next.
