BOWLING.

A peculiar incident happened on the Kaiapoi gr-een in connection with one of the games in the howling tournament. A southern skip was a few points down when the time limit was approaching, and he drove, sending the kitty to the ditch. He followed 'his howl up, picked up the kitty and rolled it down to the other end, placing a match on the spot where it had rested. A measure had to take, place to decide the -shot, and the tape Mas' put on the match. Tim idea of sending the kitty hack so hurriedly was evidently to evade the rule which states that the kitty shall not be thrown for a fresh head after the hell rings indicating that the time limit has expired. The incident seemed to display a most unsportsmanlike "keenness," to say tin* hast of it.

An extraordinary head was played on the .Simnyside green. Woolf, who was loading for .1. Drown. (United), scored four "touchers." His skip then sent down two "touchers,''' and the opposing skip drew the shot. The United ski|i then drove, taking the kitty to the ditch and lying the shot. Seven "touchers" in a head should about constitute a record.

A good yarn was told by the president of til?. North Island Bowling Association at Auckland the other day. A visitor praised a remarkable shot played by a skip who, when his opponents were lying five howls, clean drove the lot out and lay the .«hot. This brought to the president's mind an incident worth recording. A rink of Auckland men paid a visit to the Mental Hospital and engaged in a game with some of the patients. The latter were lying live when the skips went down to play, and the Aucklander' delivered a fast, one and sent all the shot bowls Hying. He asked the Asylum skip what he thought of that shot, and was dumbfounded at the answer, delivered without hesitation: l, lt may take an artist live year to paint a good picture, but any d d fool can put his footthrough it!"
