WATER SUPPLY TROUBLES. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. A deputation of insurance companies waited on the Mayor on Saturday morning, in reference to the poor pressure of the borough water supply experienced lately. Floods destroyed the upper portion of the pipe-line some time ago, since when the supply from the temporary intake has never been wholly satisfactory. The Mayor told the deputation of Mr. F. W. Marchant's suggestions for the improvement of the intake, and promised to arrange for pumping in the event of a Are. Meanwhile, householders and others are prohibited from using hoses for the garden, washing down, or similar purposes.
TWO MEN MISSING. Gisborne, Last Xight,
Although a consistent search is being made no trace has yet been discovered of the missing men Robert Hastie and Albert Gordon Pyle, and it is feared that both lost their lives by drowning.
A BROKEN SLTNO. Gishornc, Last Night. At a meeting of the Gisborne branch nf the Political Labor League, discussion took place regarding the recent death of the wharf laborer, Poulson, who was crushed owing to a sling of salt falling on him by a wire rope breaking, and the following motion was passed unanimously: "That this branch expresses its surprise and indignation at the arbitrary action of the local coroner in holding an inquest on the victim of an industrial accident without a jury."
RAISING A TUG. Wellington, Last Night. The tug Pilot, which sank at her moorings at the ferry wharf a week ago. was raised last evening bv means oi derricks, pumping operations having failed. It was found that the vessel was undamaged, her sinking being due to a seacock being left open.
THE CARPENTERS' DISPUTE. Wellington, Last Night. Negotiations for the new carpenters' award were continued on Saturday, before Mr. ITally, Conciliation Commission-' er. A settlement was reached on the matters affecting suburban and country work, piece-work, overtime, and underrate workmen. The aucstions of preference, and Apprentices' hours of work and wages have yet to he considered.
