Taranaki nominations close on Monday. Golden Loop is engaged in the Welter at Foxton to-day. The Highdcn team for Trentham comprises Polymorphous, Bronze and Allurement. Down South Miss Mischief is being backed as if the Wellington Cup, were all over bar "paying the winner." Bracken has come through a solid preparation, and is a likely starter in the Trentham Welter. Jockey E. Murtagh has been engaged to pilot Irish Rilie in the Foxton Cup to-day. Orton, Culprit and Bootle promise to provide an interesting race in the Wellington Stakes on Monday. Captain is reported to be a much improved horse since winning at Bulls, and is expected to make a decent showing at the Foxton meeting. Hold your liats on! Los Angelos can beat Swallows, and the chestnut will strip a very fit horse at the Wellington meeting. Astrakhan ran into a post in the Gore Cup, run on Wednesday, breaking his stitle and bringing down Probable and Old Speculate. Astrakhan was destroyed. Gold Lace is sprinting brilliantly on the Trentham tracks, and the daughter of Gold Reef has been in good demand amongst double-pickers ever since the weights appeared. The Stewards' Handicap winner is hard to beat when well. That well-bred disappointment, Allurement, has so often disappointed her oatsbuyer that an effort will be made to get rid of her, per medium of the selling racing, at Trentham. The neddy that leaves her best gallops on the training tracks is only fit to carry a man to tne workhouse. There are several good horses engaged in the Huapelm Hack Handicap today, and there is sure to be any amount of money for Big Blast, Contendent and Rill (if started); but a mare that must be given a rough outside chance is Contralto. The Sylvia Park marc cantered home at Stratford on New Year's Day, and one good judge opened the year with a vow to back the mare next, start. The Wellington touts have gflne right oil' Goldfinder for the Cup. The Gisborne horse is a notoriously bad track performer, and may be relied upon to run true \\..cn the colors are up. Whether the reverse way of galloping will affect his speed has yet to be shown. Provided everything goes well with li'im in the meantime, Danube will probably be given a chance to win fresh laurels against 'Stralian cracks in the summer. Lord Soiilt is stepping out like a two-year-old, and is a sure starter in the Flying at Foxton. Judging by the numerous nominations received for the Egmout autumn meeting, we are to have some interesting racing in Taranaki next month. The Taranaki Cup meeting follows Egmont closely, and everything points to the probauiiity of the T.J.C. autumn gathering being a rtcord one. Mr. E. P. Webster will receive entries for all events until 9 p.m. on Monday. January 23. The Lark will" be an aspirant for jumping honors at Foxton. The little fellow jumps well enough, but whether he will run kindly or not is another matter altogether. Makara was boomed as a liver recently, and had bad luck at Bulls. The gsod thins will be given a flutter at Foxton. Mr. W. homes, of Bulls, has now got Mahuta under lease from Mr. 11. McManaway. Trainer F.-Tilley's tram for Foxton will probably include Gabey. Attention an:l Midian. The trio have been showing some good gallops at Fordcll. After winning at Feilding and at Awapnni, Full Rate came in for solid support for the Telegraph Handicap. It is satisfactory to not? that the Wairarapa horse has gone on the right way in the inter- ; val. Trainer Walter Raynor has Shannon Lass and Praefeetus galloping in their best style at present, and the pair should not be long in picking up a race or two. Bootle is likely to start favorite in the Nursery Handicap at Trentham. The Hawke's Bay youngster -showed winning form in the spring, and then had to iie spelled, owing to a slight leg ailment. Obsono comes with a big reputation from tin"' south, and most people will remember the rank outsider's brilliant run into second place in the Canterbury Stewards' Handicap, when picking likely ones for Trentham. Sea Qui en, who was timed to run four furlongs in 4!)5.-c. on Wednesday morning, will be ridden by W, Price in the Telegraph Handicap. The following are the likely starters, with their riders, in the Wellington Cup: Los Angelos 9.0 (A. Oliiver), Iranui 8.4 (W. Rvan), (loldfinder 7.13 (B. Deeley), '.Miss Mischief 7.13 (H. Gray), Mendip 7.3 ( ), Parable 7.2 (C. Brown), Vi 0.13 (.1. Kemp). Lady Reina 0.7 (('. Emmerson), and Penza 0.7 (M. McDonald),
