HOME RULE FOR IRELAND

SPEECH BY MR. REDMOND. A NATIONALIST THREAT. By Clible—Press Association—Copyright. London, January lv). In a speech at Dublin, Mr. Redmond predicted that Home .Rule would be graited in 1912. He quoted the letter of Lord Courtney of Piuwith to Mr. Sexton, chairman of the Freeman's Journal, wherein he pleaded for a period of calm discussion of Home Rule, and suggested proportional representation in connection with the ultimate Irish Parliament. Mr. Redmond remarked that the letter showed that reasonable Unionists recognised that Home Rule was inevitable. He agreed with its spirit. What the Nationalists wanted was a Parliament that should be representative of every element in the country. While Ministers stood by their pledges the Nationalists would stand by Ministers, but the smallest deviation from their pledges as to the veto and Home Rule would mean an instant change of the Nationalists' policy. THANKS TO AUSTRALIA. Sydney, January 20. Mr. John Redmond, in a letter to Cardinal Moran, dated December 12, says that nothing can now happen to jeopardise the overwhelming majority against the veto of the House of Lords and in favor of Home Rule for Ireland. Everything points to the immediate settlement of the Irish national question. Thanks are due to Irishmen in Australia for their magnificent support.
