LAND IN THE SOUTH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night, A paddock on the east side of Fairlie, next tho main road and the railway, out up into 21 building allotments of a fifth and a quarter acre, was sold by auction to-day in a few minutes. The purchasers were all local men, the prices being two at £SO, one nt £OS, two at t'HO, one at £B4, and the rest (except three) in the forties. It. was the best land sale at auction in this district for a long time. BOOKMAKER FINED. Palmerston N., Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day J. Laidlaw, bookmaker, was fined £lO and costs for laying odds at the Ashhurst races after the tote had closed.
