The public throughout are antagonistic to the. strikers. The provisional Government has received imposing demonstrations of goodwill. Battalions of the volunteers enrolled after the proclamation of the Republic marched to the. various ministerial offices, accompanied' by bands and thousands of people, to assure the ministers of support. Immediately afterwards the city was startled by explosions due to the results of sabotage and leakage of gas through sewers ignited bv the rat-catchers' lanterns. Three were seriously burned, and several houses damaged. I
