Writing on the. test match, the Telegraph says that the Africans batted more defensively than in previous matches, probably because they (had lost the other matches. The Africans should have scored more runs, but showed lamentably bad judgment in running between the wickets. Faulkner was the only exception. They were also poor in the field, .slow to gather the bail, and slower ito return it. The win, however, proves that, given equal weather conditions, there is not much difference between the teams. The total receipts for the match were £ 1,104. The Herald states that the match was the hardest fought test in the history of tricket. Cotter's magnificent rush at the finish was the sensation of the match. Australia went down fighting li.vo Grenville and the little Revenge. South Africa wins the reward of pluck, skill and unswerving determination. South' Africa has shown that she is a wormy competitor for the cricket supremacy of the Empire. The aggregate score of 1046 was over 100 more than has been previously scored in a test match. It i.s nineteen years since Australia lost at Adelaide. THE TEACHERS' TOUR. Received 16, 12.50 a.m. Sydney, January 15. The New Zealand teachers at Nowra played the Shoalhaven Cricket. Association. New Zealand lost seven wickets for IG9 runs, and declared their innings closed. Donoliue made 2, Trevena 54, O'Shea 35, Thomas 2, Holland 43, Olsen 16, Grant not out, 3, Pringle 0, extras 14.
