WORLD'S MEAT TRUST.
REPORTED GIGANTIC -SCHEME. Official reports received by the American authorities from Government agents indicate, says.the Manchester Guardian, that a world-wide Beef Trust is being formed with the object of controlling the markets both here and in Europe. The "Big Six," as the American packers forming the trust in this country are known, have been negotiating for some time with packers -elsewhere, and it is now stated that -arrangements have almost been concluded for the formation of a gigantic combination -with enormous capital and facilities. It is stated that the most important firms in Argentina and in New Zealand are included in the "deal," and that the largest plants and ranches in both countries arc -absorbed for the purpose of making the strongest combination ever known. The reports state that the firms in -South Anrrica and New Zealand which arc joining the Trust are amongst the biggest shippers of meat to Europe. The negotiations have proceeded very quietly, for such a combination would be distinctly against the Anti-Trust Act of this country, and an immediate suit for its dissolution would bo started by the Government if the facts warranted such a proceeding.
