A SOCIETY REBUKED. By Tolograph.-Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Oliver Mcwhinncy, a civil servant, an/.eared before Mr. Justice Edwards today under a writ of attachment in custody of the Registrar of the Supreme Court at the instance of his wife Netta Mewhinney, who asked that he be committed to Wellington Gaol in consequence of his having -disobeyed two orders 0 f the court in connection with divorce proceedings between the parties v'^\. The Court bordered that ?,„M l l m n ey shouW have ««*« to the two children of the marriage between January 2nd and the beginning 6 Feburary, pendi the flnal ? fc the Court as to which of the t; should ultimately have the custody of he children. Mewhinney refused to allow Mrs Mewhmney to see the children. During the hearing of the case it was made apparent that the Wellington So eiety for the Protection of Women and Children had approached the Chief Justice in reference to the trouble. Judge Edwards said it appeared that some unusual proceedings had taken place. No society had a right to prejudice the proceedings which had been conducted with every care. He could not do anything- else than order Mewhinneyis- "detention until February, when further proceedings will be taken! Mewhinney told the Court he could not see his way for the children's sake to agree to the order which the Court made last year.
